IoT × Reform of Work Styles"beaconnect plus" Access Control System Introduced to Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd.

Achieving operational efficiency by automating attendance management

AsiaQuest Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Iidabashi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Jun Momoi), the provider of the IoT platform " beaconnect plus", has utilized gateway devices beaconnect plus", has utilized gateway devices compatible with NTT DOCOMO's mobile network to provide Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (Head Office : Hamada-cho, Yokkaichi City, Mie; Representative Director, President and CEO: Fumiyoshi Kawai) with an entrance and exit management system.

■Background
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's "Guidelines on Measures to be Taken by Employers to Ensure Proper Understanding of Working Hours (issued on January 20, 2009)" has been revised, requiring even stricter measures than before for working hour management at client companies.
However, it was difficult to provide IC cards and other systems to suppliers, and it was also prohibited to bring cell phones and PCs into workplaces.

■An inexpensive, rigorous, and easy-to-use access control system
Sumitomo Wiring Systems, Ltd. and its business partners needed an inexpensive, easy-to-use access control system that would not interfere with their daily operations.
beaconnect plus" is a system that uses beacons, so it does not adversely affect the systems of our business partners, can be installed in any location, and can accurately track entry/exit records.

■System Configuration
Engineers working in the client company's laboratories, factories, offices, etc. were given small, portable beacons, and gateway devices (beacon radio wave receivers) were installed in the locations where they were working.
The gateway devices were compatible with mobile lines (DOCOMO) and did not affect the network environment of the client company. We provided a system that acquires beacon logs when engineers enter and leave the work area, and stores and aggregates the logs on the cloud via the gateway device.
Features of the system include a dedicated management screen that allows users to manage beacons and gateway devices, check their status, and search and view logs. In addition, the system was used as a beacon-based entry/exit management system by aggregating entry and exit time data from the acquired beacon logs and linking it to an existing time and attendance system via an API.

■Automation of time and attendance management improves operational efficienc
By aggregating entry/exit data from the acquired beacon logs and linking and automating the system with the existing entry/exit system, engineers' working hours were managed in accordance with the guidelines.
In addition, engineers used to create paper attendance records in addition to inputting the data into the system to manage attendance. The on-site manager is now free from the task of checking paper attendance records, which has also improved the efficiency of the on-site workforce.
